One of the first photographers I ever became inspired by was Lissy. After looking through her work and seeing her style I think she has a unique dreamlike array of images. She is a fine art self portrait photographer that is self taught. Many people today assume that to become good at photography you have to take a course or ask someone better. Lissy is self taught. She learned by just diving in. She dove into photoshop and just played with it until she was able to work with it in the way she wanted it to work. She is inspired by props and people. Her process includes first, figuring out a concept, then location scouting, then finding a model to fit the concept and adding the props needed. After 2 hours shooting she will spend 3 to 7 hours in post production on the image. After looking at Lissy’s work and the way she creates her image I have learned that I need to be focusing on searching out a concept before I go out to take the images. I need to understand what I’m doing rather than just winging it. She doesn’t go out with others to do her work because she says it’s the time she has to get to know herself. A similarity between us would be the use of a tripod and remote to take the images. I always seem to get the questions “Who took the picture for you,” and when I answer, “I did,” there seems to be a bit of confusion. I love that Lissy uses her photography as a creative outlook for herself and doesn’t care when people question her work and the amount of images of herself. I need to stop worrying about what others think and just create for myself.
